Alfa Romeo’s plan to flood the market with 26 new and updated models is well-documented. We also know that at least two of those models will be the scintillating 8C supercar and the Giulia Quadrifoglio-based GTV Coupe. Now it looks like a third performance model is in the works, specifically a convertible version of the aforementioned 600-horsepower GTV Coupe that will be released more than a year after the coupe version drops and takes all our money away.

As exciting as the 800-horsepower Alfa Romeo 8C supercar is, let’s not forget that it’s not the only performance model that’s going to come out of this Alfa Romeo invasion. The Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio-based GTV Coupe is also arriving in 2021. What we didn’t know was that it’s coming in two different flavors.

According to Car Magazine, a “spider convertible” version of the GTV will arrive 18 months after the two-door Giulia sports car hits showrooms in 2021. Do the math, and that could mean anywhere from late 2022 to early 2023. It’s still a long ways away, sure, but the thought of seeing a new convertible Alfa Romeo is tantalizing in it of itself.

Alfa’s history with roadsters is checkered, at best, but it’s last offering, the 4C Spyder, was one of the best-looking roadsters we’ve seen in recent memory. If Alfa Romeo can parlay the design spirit of that model into the roadster version of the GTV, then we could be in for a solid surprise.

Details about the GTV Spyder have yet to come out, largely because Alfa Romeo has yet to confirm its eventual existence. But suppose it does happen, expect it to carry a lot of the same technical features as its coupe counterpart. That could be interpreted in some ways, but the most interesting aspect would be what sits underneath its hood. A 2.9-liter V-6 engine is the most likely choice since it’s already been tapped to go in the GTV Coupe. But the V-6 isn’t the only thing that’s powering the GTV, either. An electric motor will also be added to supplement the V-6 engine to the tune of about 530 horsepower. Brief bursts to up to 600 horsepower are also expected. Is it possible, then, that we could see the GTV roadster get in on that kind of fun? Don’t bet against it.

Given the rumors surrounding a roadster version of the GTV Coupe, is it too soon to start asking about the possibility of a topless 8C supercar, too?
