Here we have what is not just our closest look yet at the 2015 Scuderia Cameron Glickenhaus SCG 003 during a recent test session at the Vallelunga Circuit in Italy, but also a great opportunity to pick the brains of the creators and engineers behind the project.

The SCG 003 is James Glickenhaus’ latest project and the follow up to the P4/5 Competizione road and race cars. The B-movie producer, turned car collector, turned car builder, has broken ties with Ferrari after the Maranello company pulled its branding from the P4/5 project in response to Glickenhaus’ decision to take the car racing at the Nürburgring 24 against its wishes. So, no more Ferrari power, but we now know the SCG 003 will be powered by the same turbocharged V-6 found in the recently unveiled 2016 Acura NSX. Going by the engine noise in this video, that certainly sounds accurate.

Glickenhaus kicks things off by explaining his vision. First, he wants the SCG 003 to bridge the gap between GT class racers and Le Mans prototypes, but also conform to GT class regulations. Second, he wants to be able to drive it on the road after its racing career is over. That might sound like a tall order, but he’s done it before. His P4/5 racecar competed at the Nürburgring 24 proudly wearing a New York state license plate. It’s a pretty cool sentiment and a throwback to the days when top-flight Le Mans racers were road legal.

Two versions of the SCG 003 will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March: a road car and a race variant called the SCG 003C. Two cars will compete at the Nürburgring in the first round of the 2015 VLN season, with the ultimate goal of a strong finish at the Nürburgring 24 in May. An entry in the 24 Hours of Spa could follow.
