There were several important vehicles at the Detroit Motor Show->ke222 this past January (everyone remembers Honda->ke34 used the venue to introduce the latest-generation NSX,->ke2673 right?) but few had the same emotional impact as FoMoCo’s->ke31 2017 Ford GT. The new domestic supercar->ke177 simply stunned, with a modern take on the blue oval’s Le Mans->ke1591-winning classic, and you can bet it’ll elicit an equally visceral reaction when it finally goes on sale next year. Until then, we’ll just have to sit back and wait patiently, watching videos->ke278 like the above to hopefully sate our appetite for ultimate Ford performance.

The video starts with a throwback to the original 1964-1969 Ford GT40 that spawned the modern vehicle, followed by words from a few Ford spokesmen, all with detailed shots of the GT’s->ke411 finely hewn exterior.

Ford says it all comes back to racing with the GT, and that with the 50th anniversary of the brand’s dominating 1-2-3 performance at Le Mans coming up next year, now seems an appropriate time to release the latest generation.

Other interesting tidbits include how Ford managed to keep so much of the car under wraps ahead of its release.

Personally, I can’t wait to see this thing finally hit a track and go head-to-head with its main competitors, especially those hailing from Maranello.

2017 Ford GT

The new Ford GT sports the company’s latest developments in the realms of aerodynamics, drivetrain, and materials technology. Stiffness and lightness come from a monocoque chassis and extensive use of both aluminum and carbon fiber, while under the hood is a twin-turbo 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 laying down well over 600 horsepower at the rear wheels. A sprint to 60 should take less than four seconds and top speed should exceed 200 mph.
