Ah, the EAU Police Force. Probably the only public institution that rivals Jay Leno->ke3731 for buying luxury, high-performance and limited-edition cars. You're probably familiar with the fact that the Dubai Police added vehicles such as a Lamborghini Aventador,->ke3624 Ferrari FF, Aston Martin One-77, (one of 77 built!) Nissan GT-R and a Bugatti Veyron->ke1112 to its fleet, and yes, you guessed it, I'm here to tell you about yet another ludicrous purchase the EAU made for the sake of law and order. This time around, the Abu Dhabi Police bought a Rolls Royce Phantom, which as always, was showcased during a public event. You know, just to let felons know there's a new paddy wagon in town.

The massive limousine was unveiled at Yas Mall on Sunday to mark the opening of GCC Traffic Week in Abu Dhabi. The campaign aims to increase traffic-hazard awareness among motorists, and to encourage drivers to cooperate with the traffic police to reduce accidents and make the roads safer. Unlike Dubai's police vehicles, which sport a white-and-green livery, the Phantom received Burgundy Red body panels. Naturally, the paint scheme matches that of the Nissan GT-R, Chevy Camaro SS, and Ford F-150 Raptor the local police use to patrol around town.

Why it matters

The only thing that matters here is that both the Dubai and Abu Dhabi police forces can purchase just about any vehicle for their fleets. And I mean anything! I'm actually surprised the EAU doesn't have a LaFerrari or a McLaren P1 yet, but maybe the Police department is still waiting for them to be built.

On a more serious note, all these expensive cars have been mainly purchased to showcase the wealth of the Dubai and Abu Dhabi areas, which explains why they are often displayed in malls and near important tourist attractions. And besides, police-liveried supercars might not be the weirdest thing you can encounter in the United Arab Emirates. It also has an indoor ski resort with live penguins, ATMs from which you can buy gold, and camels parked next to cars.

And in case you're planning to have your next vacation in Dubai, be careful not to carry fish on the subway. It's forbidden and there might be an Aventador police car waiting to take you in at the next station.
