A lot of mystery still surrounds the Aston Martin-Red Bull hypercar. While we’re still not getting any closer to details being announced, there has been some new developments about the project that’s painting a clearer, albeit still slightly vague, picture of what we can expect from the highly anticipated machine. The latest word comes by way of a tipster who reached out to Jalopnik to divulge some revealing information about the AM-RB001, including a tidbit that it would receive a naturally aspirated 7.0-liter V-12 engine with around 1,000 horsepower on tap to go with a 10,000 rpm rev limit. Should that be the case, the AM-RB001, or “Nebula” as it is reportedly codenamed, will become the most powerful car Aston Martin has ever built, edging out the equally exclusive 800-horsepower Aston Martin Vulcan.

In addition to its power numbers, the AM-RB001 is also rumored to get an F1-inspired look that’s unlike anything Aston Martin has built. A big reason for that is the involvement of Red Bull Racing’s chief technical officer Adrian Newey, who as the source said, played a big role in the creation of the car’s design. Diving into the specifics, the AM-RB001’s design is said to feature “a massive amount of negative space” and will not have any wings or spoilers extending out of its body. A close comparison being thrown around is the Caparo T1, which shares a similarly descriptive “F1-inspired” design with its fair share of negative space. On the aerodynamic front, the hypercar was also described as having venturi channels that flows to an “upside-down jigsaw wing.” This design is being credited as one of the main sources of downforce for the hypercar, allowing it the styling freedom of not having wings or spoilers in its body.

Overall weight has also been pegged at 2,300 pounds, or about 1,043 kg. If that’s accurate, that would make the hypercar almost 600 pounds lighter than the Koenigsegg One:1. Do the math and the AM-RB001 would have an horsepower-to-kilogram power-to-weight ratio of .95 horsepower per kilogram, the closest any car has come to the One:1.

It must be said that none of these details are considered official. So as with most car rumors, it’s better to take them with a grain of salt. But still, based on what the source disclosed to Jalopnik, these rumors are painting a picture of a hypercar that could blow away a lot of our own expectations.

Why it matters

The thing with these rumors is that it’s exciting to see what’s being said about the Aston Martin-Red Bull hypercar, but without any confirmation from either Aston Martin or Red Bull, it’s hard to take them as gospel. Still, the tips that Jalopnik received supposedly came from someone who attended an owner’s track day meet for the new Aston Martin Vulcan at Road Atlanta and at one point, an exec from Aston showed off a design book of images and details about the new hypercar to owners who were in attendance during the event. We can confirm that the event did in fact happen, but that’s about it.

So let’s say that the source is accurate. The tidbits don’t end with the car’s design and engine. Apparently, the interior of the RB001 was also shown and it was described as being larger than expected and comes in a v-shaped look with the point at the feet. A tandem-seating configuration between the driver and the passenger was also mentioned, but other than that, there was no mention of the design and the materials that Aston Martin plan to use in the cabin. The car will also reportedly cost $3.2 million and those who already own Aston Martins are going to get first dibs on the 99 units that the company plans to make available.

There are literally so many details to go by here, making it even more difficult to piece together which ones are likely to come true and which ones are probably going to be shelved as the car’s development evolves.

Here’s what I do know about the RB 001. There are no concrete details yet, but I can’t deny that these latest tidbits is raising the hype surrounding the hypercar. Whether all of it, or just some of it comes true, my expectations for the RB 001 are now at an all-time high. It’s hard to think otherwise with the things pointed out by this tipster.
