Aston Martin and Red Bull are Teaming up Again to Create a Mid-Engined McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari Fighter

Aston Martin’s march to become a full-fledged supercar brand is gaining more steam with the revelation that the British automaker is planning another mid-engine performance car. Internally called the "brother of the Valkyrie," the new performance car will be developed with the help of Red Bull Racing, a similar partnership to the one that gave birth to the Valkyrie. Once it hits the market, the new hypercar is expected to sit alongside the Valkyrie as Aston Martin’s two crown jewel models.

Aston Martin’s been on a roll in recent years, hasn’t it? The reception behind the Valkyrie has opened even more doors for the British automaker, and to the company’s credit, it’s taking full advantage of it. News of this new mid-engined performance car as confirmed in short order by company CEO Andy Palmer. "It’s correct — we have more than one mid-engined project underway — more than two if you count the Valkyrie,” Palmer told Autocar. "This new project will draw on all the know-how we’ve taken from the Valkyrie, as well as some of its visual identity and engineering capability, and bring it to a new sector of the market."

Palmer’s comments hint at a few things, including the likelihood that this new performance car will have similar performance offerings as the Valkyrie. If that’s the case, we can expect it to have more than 1,000 horsepower on tap, to go with a smattering of aerodynamic features that will help enhance its abilities. Likewise, a price tag of at least $1.5 million is also in the cards.

Red Bull Racing is also going to be prominently involved in the project, including CEO Adrian Newey, who was instrumental in the development of the Valkyrie. The relationship between the two companies has grown in recent years so it’s no surprise that Palmer himself admitted that RBR would be involved in this new project. “We are laying down some pretty deep roots with Red Bull,” he said.

If the project progresses as expected, the new performance car will become Aston Martin’s third mid-engined supercar/hypercar that’s in the pipeline. We already know about the $3.2 million Valkyrie that’s expected to be shipped to its owners soon. We also know that Aston Martin has plans to offer a more “practical” supercar that would rival the Ferrari 488 and Lamborghini Aventador. Now, it looks like the British automaker is set to build another gnarly beast that has its eyes set on choking the life out off the McLaren P1 and Ferrari LaFerrari.
