Aston Martin is probably the only automaker to survive without an SUV in its line-up for this long, other than Ferrari. However, the company confirmed an SUV earlier this year, and now it has boldly predicted that this new SUV, dubbed as the DBX, will be its best-selling vehicle after its launch next year. The DBX was showcased in 2015 as a concept car.

The Automaker Has A Lot Of Faith In The New SUV

In contrast, Aston Martin has predicted an estimated 3,250 units to be sold for the newly launched Vantage, which is the company's entry-level sports car. The predictions were made in Aston Martin's share prospectus, in which it outlined the company's plans to potential investors before the automaker went public on the London stock market.

The V-12 Gets Replaced By An Eight-Cylinder Engine

The DBX will be powered by the same twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 engine that produces 496 horsepower, and is also present in the Vantage and DB11 coupe. This means the company is ditching Ford’s V-12, which puts into question the future between the two as the agreement expires in 2021.

Aston Martin is targeting a wider audience for this crossover, including women. The marquee also plans to expand its dealer network, from 160 now to 200 "in the medium term". That includes adding six more dealerships in North and South America, to bring it to 50 dealerships.

Conclusion

The DBX will take on the Lamborghini Urus, Bentley Bentayga, and the Ferrari Purosangue. As for the electrification plans, Aston Martin is manufacturing an electric crossover to be launched under the Lagonda brand in 2021, to take on the Rolls-Royce Cullinan. Full-fledged production of the DBX will commence in early 2020 in a new plant in St. Athan, Wales.

Is Aston Martin a tad bit late with the DBX? The confidence with which the marque is claiming numbers, it only means that the vehicle will be a value-for-money offering as per the segment-standards.
