This viral video from Audi’s->ke14 UK arm will have you pondering where it is that their little cars really come from.

But seriously, no it won’t.

The two-minute spot takes viewers to a terrifyingly dark corner of some unknown Audi complex, where a V10-powered R8 revs and vibrates on a high-tech platform, attended by robot arms. Soon the rear fascia is pulled away from the car, and the back of the R8 expands like a snake unhinging its jaw, and lubricating fluids are sprayed everywhere, and, well…this is a much more intimate look at the process of producing the 367-horsepower RS3 sport-compact than you might have been expecting. Or want.

On the other hand, it suggests that it only takes a few minutes to produce the turbocharged, five-cylinder-powered super-hatch, so theoretically there could be lots of them on the ground, as long as Audi’s got R8s to…oh, God, what’s impregnating them?

Deep breaths. It’s a metaphor, that’s all. Calm down. That’s not how cars are built -- but it is how they’re conceived—uhhh, how they’re conceptualized. Taken that way, the expertly produced spot is a perfect distillation of the thought process that led from the race-bred, V10-powered R8 to the five-cylinder, BMW M235i-chasing RS3, which hasn’t been promised to the U.S. market, but might arrive some time in 2016 if Stateside enthusiasts scream loudly enough.

The RS3 offers plenty to shout about: 343 pound-feet of torque, a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, a 4.3-second 0-60 sprint, all-wheel drive and Audi’s understated RS-model styling upgrades. And the video -- lightly disturbing or not -- is definitely something to see and hear.
