Earlier this year, Audi announced its plan to build a four-door performance electric car. This was when the automaker teased the E-Tron GT. With the E-Tron revealed already, it looks like the GT version will be equally impressive. Although nothing concrete was provided back then, we now have a few details.

Has Set Eyes On The Target

Autocar has shed some light on this news, and the E-Tron GT is expected to hit the roads in 2020 and will feature an electric drivetrain similar to that of E-Tron SUV. According to Audi’s powertrain chief Siegfried Pint, the E-Tron GT will be “focused more towards power” instead of maximum range. The German automaker wants to take on the Tesla Model S P100D.

Sharing Is Caring

The Audi E-Tron GT will borrow parts from its cousin, the Porsche Taycan. So, expect the E-Tron GT to carry some Porsche traits along with its Audi DNA. The E-Tron GT will be underpinned by the same platform as the Porsche Taycan. This will also be Audi’s first electric model to use the so-called “flat-floor solution” instead of the “high-floor solution” found in the E-Tron SUV.

Fast While Sprinting, Fast While Charging

As per Autocar, the E-Tron GT will also be Audi’s first vehicle to allow for 350-kW fast charging, which will be capable of charging up to 80-percent in under 12 minutes. This is an added advantage, as Audi is publicizing this car as a performance model rather than a range product.

Conclusion

Later in 2019, Audi will also reveal the production-ready version of the E-Tron Sportback, followed by the production version of the E-Tron GT in 2020. It will be manufactured at Audi’s Neckarsulm factory in Germany and will be one of Audi’s ten electric vehicles that it plans to debut by 2025.
