For the first time since the world was created - that is to say, it's never happened before - Audi has outsold Mercedes-Benz for the first quarter of 2010, according to Automotive News.

It's a tough realization to make, but it is indeed a reality. Mercedes->ke187 has never had a problem competing with Audi->ke14 in terms of quarterly new vehicle sales because the Ingolstadt-based Audi has never beaten Mercedes in that vital element of sales figures.

Until this year. And the most suprising thing is, the margin was pretty lopsided.

For the first three months of 2010, Audi was able to sell a total of 264,100 vehicles compared to the 248,500 cars sold by Mercedes - a 15,600-unit difference.

The spike in sales for Audi is attributed to Volkswagen's->ke94 - Audi's parent company - aggressive push of being able to sell 1.5 million units a year by 2016. The figures are still a little off of their intended number, but if it means that they were able to beat a brand they have never even come close to a whiff of beating, we're pretty sure that Audi - and VW, for that matter - is thrilled by this unprecedented turn of events.
