The Bentley Continental GT3-R made a lot of noise when it debuted at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in 2014. But as it turns out, Bentley is looking at the possibility of an even more powerful Continental in the future. Yes, more powerful than the 572-horsepower GT3-R.

Bentley design chief Luc Donckerwolke spoke to Autocar about the incredible demand generated by the Continental GT3-R. The company only released 300 units of the model and according to Donckerwolke, all 300 have been accounted for. It's this incredible demand surrounding the GT3-R that leads Bentley->ke15 to keep the door of a more extreme version of the sports car->ke506.

Donckerwolke also pointed out the incredible opportunity Bentley has in connecting to a younger market that might have become used to identifying the company as a luxury->ke505 adult brand.

A car like the GT3-R showed that Bentley still has the chops to build models that celebrate its successful history in motorsports->ke3955. But with a more powerful model, it can open itself up to establishing an identity with younger generations of buyers more like the one that surrounds Porsche->ke1 and Aston martin->ke13.

Donckerwolke didn’t specifically divulge any details behind this potential British rocket, but we do know that the Continental GT3-R has set the bar on how fast and powerful the Continental can be. If a more powerful Continental GT3-R is in the works, anything less than 600 horsepower would be a disappointment.

Why It Matters

Bentley's goal of diversifying its model lineup received a tremendous shot in the arm with the unveiling of the Continental GT3-R. Not only was it considered the fastest and most powerful vehicle Bentley has ever built, it also showed that the British automaker is capable of building such a car in the first place.

So what can we really expect if the company does come out with something even more extreme than the Continental GT3-R? At the very least, it would be hard to look at Bentley the same again.

Bentley Continental GT3-R

The Bentley Continental GT3-R was introduced at the 2014 Goodwood Festival of Speed as the fastest model Bentley has ever created.

More than any other model in Bentley's current lineup, the Continental GT3-R checks off a lot of items on its list. It sits on top of the Continental V8 lineup, and features plenty of features and technology exclusive to its kind.

It also has a dynamic look and a 4.0-liter, V-8 engine that produces 572 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque. That makes the Continental GT3-R the fastest-accelerating model Bentley has ever built, capable of a 0-to-60-mph time of just 3.6 seconds to go with a top speed of about 170 mph.
