Officially unveiled at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show,->ke228 the EXP 10 Speed 6 was also in Bentley's->ke15 booth in New York->ke226 and is currently at the 2015 Shanghai Auto Show->ke2470 as well. The concept car's->ke169 world tour will not end there, as Bentley's chairman Wolfgang Dürheimer wants the luxury carmaker to build a database of customer opinions about the model's styling. In turn, this would help create a feasibility study concerning mass production. So far, it seems that feedback is positive, but this doesn't mean that the EXP 10 Speed 6 will reach production without any design changes.

"What we already received as a clear indication after Geneva, the message was ‘don’t change anything, just do it.’" Dürheimer told Autocar. "There are only little tweaks that need to be done. Our present intention is to make the front section look a little bit faster. The grille will not be as upright, it will be a little bit more laid down. We will probably look again at the headlight configuration. They look a little bit awkward from different angles. For a Bentley face, circular shaped headlights are what our customers like. This type of headlight you find in the Mulsanne and in the forthcoming SUV,->ke145 and our customers say this is what we like from Bentley," he continued.

Surprisingly, Dürheimer didn't mention any styling tweaks regarding the concept's lavish and new-retro interior, which means that it may actually end up in the production version. There was also not a single mention of powertrain options, even though the Speed Six name would presumably require something with six cylinders.

Why it matters

A production version of the EXP Speed 6 Concept would translate to Bentley's first foray into a segment that previously belonged almost exclusively to carmakers like Aston Martin,->ke13 Maserati,->ke51 Jaguar->ke39 and Porsche.->ke1 With Mercedes-AMG->ke8 also attacking established models like the V8 Vantage,->ke4410 the upcoming Alfieri,->ke4832 the F-Type Coupe->ke1224 and especially the 911->ke282 with the athletic GT,->ke4853 it seems that Bentley would like a piece of the action as well.

I loved the concept's exterior and interior, and the only questions regarding the model revolve around its powerplant and price positioning. Oddly, both are related, as Bentley could probably not get away with charging extra for fewer than eight cylinders, while the car's name and lineage would suggest that a turbocharged or hybrid->ke147 six-cylinder would be in order anyway.
