The BMW 8 Series Concept has allegedly leaked online only a day before BMW’s official debut of the two-door coupe at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on May 26. The leak was picked up by Carscoops, but no information about the source or details about the 8 Series were given. While the three images are likely real shots of the BMW concept, there is a chance these could be renderings from a skilled digital artist. The truth won’t reveal itself until tomorrow when BMW pulls the sheets off the concept GT car.

The debut is set along the shores of Lake Como in northern Italy. The high-class concourse event has long been a place where automakers showcased their latest exclusive models. It’s fitting, then, that the 8 Series concept should make its arrival there. Earlier this month, BMW CEO Harald Kuüger was quoted saying, “The BMW 8 Series Coupe will build on our tradition of luxurious sports coupes and add a genuine dream car to our line-up – a slice of pure automotive fascination. The 8 Series Coupe will underpin our claim to leadership in the luxury segment. I can tell you today that this will be a true luxury sports coupe.”

Few details are known about the 8 Series Coupe, though speculation and logic give a fairly deep understanding of what could transpire. The 8 Series will share its platform with the 7 Series sedan. The same is likely true for powertrain options, as well. BMW will probably forego the plug-in hybrid four-cylinder and turbodiesel options in favor of the 7’s higher-strung options. These include the 3.0-liter, twin-turbo inline-six found in the 740i and the 4.4-liter, twin-turbo V-8 from the 750i. And to honor the 8 Series Coupe’s history with V12 engines, BMW would be foolish not to offer the 6.6-liter, twin-turbocharged V-12 from the M760Li. It’s doubtful the 8 Series will be offered with a manual transmission, however.

Thankfully rumors and speculations don’t have long to live, so long as BMW is forthright with information at tomorrow’s debut. Stay tuned to TopSpeed as the story unfolds.

Leaked Image vs Our Rendering

Editors note: If we had to use one word to describe the 8 Series concept in comparison to our rendering it would be “angular.” For the most part, and assuming this is a true leaked photo, we were pretty accurate in our design. However, the concept shown in the leaked pictures is much more angular. The front grilles have a sharper bend while the fascia itself features sharper lines and a different vent layout. On the sides, BMW looks to have put an emphasis on the fender vent where we went with a big piece of chrome trim that matches the trim in the front and rear. Our roof slope was just about right, however, the rear stationary glass is certainly more angular in the rear while ours was more rounded. It looks like we have the right wraparound taillights, however, they look to protrude from the body a bit more on the car in the leaked images. It also appears as if the 8 Series concept will have more of a slope to the rear deck, which could make it a lot sportier than the usual BMW look that we’re used to.
