And we thought BMW’s Vision Efficient Dynamics Concept would never see the production light of day. But now, it seems our prayers have finally been answered. Rumor has it that the neckties over at BMW->ke178 have finally decided to send the VED concept to the production block. Hooray for us!

We’ve also learned a few details about the car that could be of interest to anyone who’s ever dreamed of one day owning this hybrid machine. For starters, the car will come with a carbon fiber chassis and would be powered by a gas hybrid or a fully electric motor with a 1.5-liter, three-cylinder motor that produces 181 horsepower and paired to two electric motors that produce 93 horsepower each.

The car will also come with a double-clutch transmission and will be available either with rear-wheel drive and all-wheel drive, as well as all-wheel drive for the hybrid version of the car. The car is expected to hit 0-62 mph in four seconds and will have a total volume range of 400 km at four liters per 100 km.

As for the cost, the car is being pegged to come with a price tag of about 125,000 – 175,000, or about $174,000 to $244,000 in American money. With a higher-than-usual price tag, the production version of the VED concept will be limited to just 30,000 units that will be built over the course of five years.

Finally, BMW is also considering producing an M version of the car, which could possibly be called the M1. The car will come with either a V8 or a BMW M3-sourced inline-six turbo engine that produces 450 PS with the addition of two “Supercaps” that boosts the output by 100 PS each.

And just so you know in case you still have no idea, that car that’s being featured in BMW’s ‘Don’t Blog About This’ campaign? It could very well be the production version of the VED concept.
