Brumos Racing is back! Following an almost two-year absence from endurance racing, the iconic red and blue racing stripes will once again grace the bodywork of a Porsche 911->ke282 in competition as Patrick Dempsey and the newly formed Dempsey/Wright Motorsports will run the classic Brumos livery this season at Daytona and Sebring.

This news isn’t entirely a surprise, though, as Dempsey surrounded himself with plenty of Brumos talent last year. Brumos Porsche vice president and legendary endurance racer Hurley Haywood joined the team as a racing consultant, while former Brumos driver Andrew Davis – who was on the 2011 GT Championship team – joined Dempsey Racing as a driver in 2014.

When it comes to the 2015 livery, the Brumos-sponsored Dempsey/Wright Motorsports race car->ke148 will wear the No. 58 instead of the usual Brumos Racing No. 59, and it will make its big debut this weekend at the Roar Before the Rolex 24. The car will then mark its return to racing,->ke447 by competing in the Rolex 24 at Daytona this month, and this paint scheme will also be used for the 12 Hours of Sebring in late March.

Dempsey will share seat time with established racers Phillip Eng, Madison Snow and Jan Heylen. The combination of Brumos Racing, Dempsey Racing and Wright Motorsports brings together a wealth of racing knowledge, Porsche->ke1 heritage and, most importantly, consistent success.

Why it matters

The white, red and blue Brumos Racing livery might not be as globally recognizable as those of Martini, Gulf or Marlboro (although it should be), but these historic colors will be back in action once again this year thanks to a marketing partnership between Brumos Porsche and Dempsey/Wright Motorsports.

Brumos Racing History

As an independent Porsche dealership located in Jacksonville, FL, Brumos started racing in 1971 thanks to the late Peter Gregg. Gregg and Haywood would go on to establish Brumos as a dominant force in the racing world with especially consistent results at its “hometown track” also known as the Daytona International Speedway -- just about an hour south of Jacksonville. Brumos has tallied five victories alone at Daytona including three straight from 1973 through 1976 and its most recent in 2009.

Over the years, the Brumos colors have adorned many Porsches and competed in many racing series, but the team has always found success whether in production-style cars like the 914 and 911 or prototype race cars like the 917. After five decades of racing, though, the Porsche dealership put its race team on ice following the 2013 Road Atlanta race after running just four races that season. Despite not being actively involved in racing, Brumos Porsche has remained heavily involved in the sport with unique events at the dealership including live question-and-answer forums with Porsche racing figures such as Haywood, Leh Keen and Patrick Long. And there’s no doubt this racing tradition will soldier on following the Brumos color returning to racing action in 2015.
