The Full Story

For all intents and purposes, this thing certainly looks like the upcoming mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette. As far as we can tell, the sports car featured here is the same test mule we’ve seen before, as captured in heaps of spy videos and spy shots we’ve featured in the past.

The mule is still shrouded in a confusing layer of camo, with details like the rear louvers covered up to hide any giveaways from prying eyes. Regardless, the C8 clearly still looks much more exotic than the nose-heavy shark-like designs we’ve seen previously. The new proportions give it an entirely different feel, complemented by a more familiar squared rear end. And don’t forget those sizable intakes placed just ahead of the rear wheels.

As for motivation, the C8 is rumored to offer several different engine options, including the current base model’s 6.2-liter, 460-horsepower naturally aspirated V-8. The more interesting options could include a twin-turbo 4.2-liter V-8 making 650 horsepower, and a possible twin-turbo 5.5-liter V-8 making 850 horsepower.

Either way, we expect a run to 60 mph in 3 seconds or less, plus a top speed over 220 mph.

The new C8 Corvette is expected to debut at the 2019 North American International Auto Show, with production kicking off sometime later in the year.
