The guys over Motor Trend had the chance to bring two of the most amazing American supercars out there: a 2013 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and the new SRT Viper for a test comparison at the Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. No doubt both cars were equally impressive and the new Viper has been simple described as "just more of an animal."

But no matter how impressive it is, or how fast it is, the ZR1 turned out to be even more impressive. With Randy Pobst behind the wheel the ZR1 managed to set a new Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca lap record with a time of 1:33.70. The previous record was held by a 2010 Dodge Viper ACR for more than three years with a time of 1:33.99.

The car used was a ZR1 straight from the showroom and Pobst needed only five laps to establish this impressive result. By comparison the new SRT Viper managed to lap the Laguna Seca in 1:35.77 - making it even slower than the old ACR version.

Note: no car was harmed during this test drive!
