With Ford updating the Mustang for the 2018 model year, it should come as no surprise that Chevy had to do the same for its resident muscle car. For 2019, the Camaro gets a revised front end with a new grille and sexier headlights. The rear end of all models get a revised fascia and new taillights as well. More important than this, however, is the new Turbo 1LE which effectively adds the track-ready goodies from other 1LE models to the four-banger Camaro. There’s lots of good stuff here so keep reading to learn more.

2019 Chevy Camaro Exterior Enhancements

The biggest change to the outside of the 2019 Camaro comes in the form of a revised radiator grille that’s now larger and more aggressive. The headlights get a makeover as well, with the LED strip extending further into the radiator. The front fascia has also been updated, but the updates are specific to the different trim levels with the LS and LT taking on one look, the RS taking on its own look, and the SS getting its own treatment as well. The ZL1 goes on unchanged to keep the aero-optimized design. The SS model gets the “flowtie” front grille emblem.

As for the rear end, a new fascia is in place that brings a slightly more toned down look in the corners while RS and SS models get unique diffusers when they are equipped with dual mode exhaust. What’s more important back here are the redesigned taillights that feature a new LED layout. LS and LT models get red lenses while higher trims get dark-tinted lenses. To round off the exterior, RS and SS models get a new set of 20-inch wheels.

2019 Chevy Camaro Turbo 1LE

The Chevy Turbo, or as some of you call it, the “four-banger” Camaro comes with the same 2.0-liter turbo four under the hood. Chevy didn’t make any tweaks here, so it still delivers the same 275 horsepower and 295 pound-feet of torque. But, when you opt for the Turbo 1LE, you get the FE3 suspension system with larger sway bars, revised and tuned dampers, stiffer cradle bushings and cross-axis ball joints for better “lateral stiffness.”

To go with this new-to-the2.0 suspension is a set of summer tires that measure 245 in the front and 275 in the rear – much wider than on the standard turbo model. Like the rest of the track-ready trims, you get Brembo brakes, a drive mode selector; track mode included. It also gets the performance readouts, launch control, shift lights, and a flat-bottom steering wheel. Recaro Seats are available if you’re willing to pony up the dough.

2019 Chevy Camaro Infotainment System and Technology

All 2019 Camaros get Chevy’s upgraded Infotainment 3 system that promises an enhanced experience and more usable interface. The important thing of note here is the addition of over-the-air software updates – a first for the Camaro. The system comes standard with a seven-inch screen but can be optioned with an eight-inch diagonal screen. Voice recognition and navigation are available as options. Further enhancements included a rear camera mirror as standard equipment on 2SS and ZL1 models, revised rear camera system with high-definition video, and an “enhanced” performance data recorder. Finally, GM has added forward collision alert to the list of available active safety features… yay.

Final Thoughts

Is it just me or are these facelifts coming sooner and soon these days? The Camaro has only been around for a couple of years, but it was necessary to keep up with the Mustang. The new look up front is welcomed, and the new exterior lighting is awesome. The most important thing about the 2019 model year is the addition of the 1LE package for the 2.0-liter turbo. It was something a lot of people asked for, and it’s about time that Chevy listed to what everyone wanted. It might not be a powerhouse, but once you add on that 1LE package, the turbo Camaro should handle very well, and sometimes that’s better than having a lot of power under the hood – it sure works for cars like the Toyota 86 and Subaru BRZ, right?
