There’s a debate in the art world over whether or not a car can be art. While you and I may scoff at such a notion (“have those snobs even seen an Eagle E-Type Speedster?!”), they actually have a point.

You see, art is supposed to hold no other purpose other than simply being art. A car can take you places – it’s a machine. However, I’d argue that doesn’t automatically make all cars exempt from being art. A fender is supposed to contain a wheel, but it’s shape and design might be created in such a way as to be beautiful, not functional. And while I certainly know far more about cars than I do art, it would seem as though some agree with me. The Boston Museum of Fine Arts, for example, once put Ralph Lauren’s car collection up for a four-month exhibition, with standout models including a Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic Coupe, Jaguar XKD, Porsche 550 Spyder, and Ferrari 250 Testarossa.->ke2391

One thing, however, is certain: cars can be the medium for the creation of certain art forms. No, I’m not talking about Ken Block doing donuts in LA. In this particular circumstance, I’m talking about music (although I could listen to that Hoonicorn all day long).

Infiniti->ke36 has produced a music video (remember those?) featuring a song composed entirely from sounds created using its vehicles. A door closing is used for the bass, the fuel pump is the treble, and the infotainment voice is used for vocals. The visuals are like some car-themed kaleidoscope.

Now if Infiniti could only make a car as pretty as its concepts…
