The head of the design department at Chrysler, Trevor Creed, believes the company should turn the Dodge Demon concept car into a production car.

The Demon was shown at the Geneva Auto Show this past spring.  It is a two seater aimed squarely at the Mazda Miata and Pontiac Solstice.

The concept car uses a 2.0 liter engine with horsepower almost identical to the Miatas, 172 hp, but production cars could be offered with other Chrysler corporate engines, including a 300 hp turbocharged 2.4 liter, currently used in the Caliber SRT.

Whether Creed gets his wish will depend on how Cerberus, its new owner, wants to spend its money.  Chrysler does not have a small rear drive platform.  GM developed one for the Solstice, but it did so with the expectation that it would be used for other models, too.

On the other hand, much of the concept car’s mechanical components are derived from other Chrysler models already in production.
