Fiat->ke30 Chrysler->ke21 Automobiles (FCA) is showing off a new smartphone app for its Uconnect system at CES 2015. Available for Chrysler, Dodge,->ke28 Jeep->ke40 and Ram->ke4211 vehicles, the Uconnect Access smartphone application features a new look, improved feel and functionality, enabling owners to navigate through it in a faster and more intuitive manner. The new app also introduces four all-new services, through which drivers are able to locate their cars with their smartphones, send destinations to the navigation system remotely and receive health reports about their vehicles via email accounts.

Designed to "minimize the everyday stresses by providing drivers with a variety of ways to stay conveniently connected to their vehicle," the app and the new services are scheduled to become available during the first half of 2015 on 2015 model year Chrysler family vehicles equipped with 8.4A or 8.4AN Uconnect infotainment systems. Naturally, drivers must be registered or have an active Uconnect Access subscription to benefit from this update. Keep reading for the full run-down on the new services.

Vehicle Finder

This app is easy to use and quite useful if you can't remember where you parked your car. All you need to do is touch the "Location" button at the bottom of the screen and you can view the location of your vehicle via map or satellite views. The map even shows the distance you have to walk or drive to reach your car. Speaking of which, the "Find Route" icon enables a navigation application that will direct you to the precise location of the vehicle via walk or drive. If the car is nearby, a "Sound Horn" icon will help you locate it acoustically.

Send Destination to Vehicle

This is yet another app that will come in handy and reduce the amount of time you spend searching for locations in the car. "Send Destination to Vehicle" allows you to search for and select a certain destination from the app -- you can do it from any location as long as you have a smartphone -- and send it to the vehicle via a simple two-button process. Once you reach the car, the destination will appear on its touchscreen when it starts. To drive to the said location, all you need to do is approve it at the touch of a button.

Monthly Vehicle Health Report and Vehicle Health Alert

These two apps will inform you about the vehicle's health and performance status through a monthly report that is sent into your personal email account. "Monthly Vehicle Health Report" allows you to monitor the car's key systems, including engine, gearbox, brakes, suspension, oil and fluids, as well as safety features. The report comes with color-coded icons; green check icons indicating that no issues are found, a yellow exclamation point signifying that action is suggested, and a red x letting you know that immediate action is required. Although the report received via email doesn't include additional information, a quick login to the owner website will get you a more detailed report.

Should one of the key powertrain, oil and fluids, brakes, suspension or safety systems require immediate attention, the "Vehicle Health Alert" app kicks in with an additional email alert as soon as a warning light of one of the key systems appears on the car's dashboard. The email explains what the warning light means, how the vehicle is affected by the issue and what action needs to be taken. Also, the latter will let you know if you need to schedule an appointment with a qualified service technician to fix the problem.

Why it matters

Already known as one of the best automotive-related interactive systems, Chrysler's Uconnect has been enhanced to provide drivers with even more ways to stay connected to their vehicles. In the 21st century, that's no longer a fancy option, but a necessity required by the busy lifestyles we've all come to have. These new apps make locating the vehicle and sending destinations to the car's navigation a lot simpler and quicker, while the monthly health apps allow drivers to monitor the car's vital systems from the comfort of their homes or offices. It doesn't get easier than this and it's apps like these that can make a difference with customers looking for a car that's easy to track and maintain. With Ford and GM already offering similar services, Chrysler is keeping up with its most relevant U.S. competitors.
