Unveiled in the second half of 2017, the Infiniti QX50 is no longer a novelty, but the Japanese firm had it on display at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show and used the event to reveal U.S. pricing and a new reservation program for customers. The latter gives customers the opportunity to reserve the reserve the vehicle during the pre-launch phase and receive upgraded luxury gifts as the number of reservations increase.

Specifically, the more people who reserve, the greater luxury gifts everyone will receive. The idea is to reward interested customers to encourage friends and family to consider the brand-new Infiniti QX50. Infiniti says that the first tier has already been unlocked when reservations exceeded 4,000, while the second tier of rewards will be unlocked at 8,000 reservations. Finally, the third tier starts at 12,000 reservations. The brand doesn't say what these rewards include, but it did mention that the "luxury gift packages come in three themes: Tech, Audio and Home." This special pre-sale program is available through February 28, and customers who sign up and purchase or lease the QX50 by May 31 are also eligible to receive gifts.

Moving over to pricing, the QX50 starts from $36,550, a sticker that brings you the Pure trim with rear-wheel drive. Upgrade to AWD and the price jumps to $38,350. Next up is Luxe, which costs $39,400 with RWD and $41,200 with AWD. The range-topping Essential model fetches $43,350 before options, while the AWD version comes in at $45,150.

Designed to replace the EX launched in 2007 (and renamed the QX50 in 2013), the second-gen QX50 was upgraded to the brand's latest styling language and technology package. At the same time, it ditched the previous V-6 engine, replacing it with a turbocharged, 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit. The mill features variable compression ratio, which can change the height of the pistons in real time to adjust the compression ratio as needed for performance or fuel economy.
