If you need more proof that the auto industry is shifting into a world dominated by digital technology, you need to be introduced to Reviver Auto. The California-based company is in attendance at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show to unveil its new product, the RPlate Pro. In so many words, the RPlate Pro is a digital license plate because apparently, regular license plates are so 2017.

It’s hard to understate the underlying silliness of a digital license plate. Apparently, it’s come to the point that the industry is going to turn digital on everything, even a simple sheet of metal like a license plate.

But before you completely scoff at the idea, think about it for a second because it’s actually a genius idea! Move beyond the generic functions of a license plate, and you’ll see the potential of that little rectangular sheet to become more than what it is.

Reviver Auto saw that potential and went ahead and developed the RPlate Pro. Aesthetically, the RPlate Pro looks like a normal license plate. It’s a little thicker and heavier, but that’s largely due to a plethora of digital functions that include displaying digital messages, ranging from bumper sticker quotes to marketing slogans. Due to its ability to be connected online, the plates also allow online registration renewals.

The product has generated significant interest that 100,000 of these plates are expected to go live in California. Arizona, Texas, and Florida are other states that are initiating pilot testing on digital plates. This is not a flash-in-the-pan product, folks. Galpin Ford in California is also backing the product. That’s significant because the dealership happens to be the largest Ford dealership in the world.

It’s unclear how much the RPlate Pro costs, but we expect details to surface once the plates become available.
