DeLorean Motor Company or DMC in short is famous for their DMC-12 sports car, but also for their presence in the American Le Mans Series racing series. And now DMC has announced plans to also offer an electric version of the DeLorean. A final version won't be released until late 2013, but a prototype has already been displayed at the DMC Texas – Open House Event on October 14th, 2011.

The new model will be developed in cooperation with Epic EV - the company started by Aptera co-founder Chris Anthony. While DMC offered no other details on the future electric model, early reports suggest the model will deliver up to 260 HP and will be capable to hit a top speed of 125 mph. The electric motor will most likely have a rear-mounted configuration and will take its power from a lithium-ion battery pack. Gullwing doors will remain, but that's pretty much all we can say at this point.

Prices will start from about $100k.
