If you dropped cash early for a 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat yet still haven’t received your kitty, there may be a reason. It appears more than a handful of early customers have their Hellcat orders delayed due to a logjam. The common denominator: the Satin-Black hood.

Apparently Chrysler->ke21 is having a hard time filling orders for the $995 paint option. While there’s no official word coming from the Pentastar regarding the hold-up, the enthusiasts on the Hellcat.org forum have put two and two together. Only the Hellcats ordered with the hood are experiencing delays. Unfortunately, those delays could potentially last until February 2015, according to one forum user’s experience with his local dealership.

The only remedy for hastening the Hellcat’s arrival is cancelling the Satin-Black hood option. In that case, customers would receive their Hellcats in a much shorter time.

There’s no real logical explanation to reason why Dodge->ke28 is having issues filling the orders beyond a mere shortage of the Satin-Black paint. In that case, it’s likely the fault of a third party supplier. Once something changes, we’ll post an update. Until then, owners of solid-body-colored Hellcats will be looked upon with jealousy.

Why it matters

It’s rather odd Dodge is having a difficult time filling orders for Satin-Black hoods. It’s just a paint option, after all. Like I mentioned above, this might reveal a problem with a Mopar parts supplier not delivering on demand. While I hate to speculate, that’s all I’ve got to go on.

Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat

The Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat is one hellacious kitty. It packs a supercharged, 6.2-liter V-8 cranking out a massive 707 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels through a six-speed manual transmission or an eight-speed automatic. The 2+2 coupe is fitted with some unique bodywork to differentiate it from its less powerful brethren, though the same basic shape holds true.

Pricing for the Hellcat starts at a reasonable $59,995 before options.
