Two years ago, the DS performance brand unveiled the E-Tense Concept at the Geneva Motor Show. As the brand's supposed answer to the Audi R8, the E-Tense Concept gained traction as a potential production model. Nothing has come out of it since, and that has led to speculation that those plans have been scrapped. Fortunately, for every door that closes, another one opens. Fast forward to 2018 and DS has a new concept on its hands. It’s called the DS X E-Tense, and, judging by the teaser video, it looks like a worthy follow-up to its namesake.

Ok, so we don’t see a whole lot of the DS X E-Tense Concept in the teaser video. We did see the side profile of the concept, and we can tell with certainty that it’s a long, fastback car with funky mesh-like lighting systems in the front and rear. DS also spent a good portion of the teaser showing various shapes and curves, presumably alluding to the concept sporting a heavily aggressive design.

Towards the end, we actually see two versions of the concept racing each other. One has the look of a closed cabin sedan while the other is a roofless version with a single-seat cockpit. That would explain the shot of a highly focused driver with a helmet on his head, acting as if he’s in the middle of a competitive race.

Very few of these details explain what the X E-Tense Concept is all about. There’s no mention of the powertrain; though, given DS’ past interpretation of the E-Tense Concept, an electric powertrain is probably powering those two versions of the X E-Tense Concept.

Given what the teaser tried to show, we’re prepared for just about anything regarding the X E-Tense Concept. DS has earned that much equity from us after giving us the E-Tense Concept back in 2016 and the DS E-TENSE FE 19, which DS unveiled at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show as its interpretation of a future Formula E race car.

Fortunately, the teaser video dropped at a curious time, leading us to think that DS actually has plans to unveil it at the Beijing Auto Show later this month.
