Over the years, Electronic Arts has given us countless racing games under the Need For Speed franchise Now, the video game company is takng their love for racing to a whole new level: announcing that they have formed their very own, real-life racing team under the same Need for Speed banner.

The crazy thing is, these guys are seemingly dead serious. There are reports coming out that the EA/Need for Speed racing team is being penned to participate in at least two different racing series: Formula D here in the US and the VLN series right across the Atlantic in Europe.

EA has also scooped up some highly-rated race car drivers in the form of Patrick Soderlund, Matt Powers, and Mad Mike Whiddett. All three drivers have already signed up to race for the Need for Speed racing team in one capacity or another, proving yet again that this move by Electronic Arts is more than just savvy PR and ingenious marketing.

These guys are really in it to make a name for themselves in whatever racing series they throw their hats in.
