Low weight, 500 naturally aspirated horsepower, RWD, and three pedals. This is Porsche’s->ke1 idea of a pure driving experience. It’s a zero-frills, purely mechanical approach to plastering a big, dumb smile on your face, and in a world where computers and electric->ke1030 motors are the inevitable future, driving enthusiasts can turn to the R and breath a sigh of relief. EVO knows this, so the publication asked Andreas Preuninger, the head of Porsche’s GT division, for a full rundown on the new 911.->ke282 If you’re a car nerd, and love the technical nitty gritty, then this is the video for you.

At its heart, the 911 R is a made for fun, and while it will undoubtedly lay down impressive lap times if asked, that’s not the point. “It’s a true, authentic driver’s car,” Preuninger explains. “It’s not a race car,->ke148 it’s not for track use, it’s not like this track tool that we normally offer. It has the same technology, but it’s more like a purist’s car.”

That means no turbos, no AWD system, no PDK. You won’t even find a wing bolted to the R’s rear end, something that’s pretty much unheard of when talking about a vehicle capable of 200 mph. Rather, the extensive underbody design provides all the high-speed aero balance needed.

That’s just one of the cool details you’ll learn in this 16-minute look at the 911 R. There’s no driving, just analyzing, specs, and a whole lot of want.
