The new Porsche 911 GT2 RS has been tipped as the fastest and most powerful production 911 in history. It’s also the most expensive one with a starting price tag of $294,250. The good news is that those 1,000 customers who managed to reserve a slot for the 911 GT2 RS will also get the opportunity to score some fancy accessories along the way for their trouble. One of these accessories is the Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph, the first-ever watch from Porsche Design whose clock movement was developed in-house.

As with most premium watches, the 911 GT2 RS Chronograph strikes quite an impression. Design elements from the actual 911 GT2 RS were used to highlight the unique look of the watch, from the tungsten winding rotor that was inspired by the wheel patterns of the sports car to the carbon fiber clock face and the display the takes from the design of the tachometer. Functionally, the chronograph features a brand new Caliber Werk 01.200 movement by Porsche Design that includes a flyback function and a load-path-optimized movement bridge. Oh, and it also comes with a titanium case just in case the level of premium exclusivity isn’t evident enough. The Porsche Design 911 GT2 RS Chronograph is a nice ancillary add-on to a car that packs 700 horsepower and is limited to just 1,000 units, each priced at $11,000.

What's another $11,000?

Sarcasm aside, I don’t think the 911 GT2 RS Chronograph swayed any people on buying the sports car. The actual 911 GT2 RS is already appealing enough in itself, thanks in part to justifying all of Porsche’s claims of it being the fastest and most powerful 911 in history. It’s also the most expensive one, which shouldn’t come as a surprise either considering the car’s credentials.

As for the watch itself, it is an intriguing piece. It’s simple and understated, two qualities that watch collectors are always on the look out for. The red leather band on the strap is also a nice premium touch that adds some color to the overall presentation of the timepiece. Overall, I like what I’m seeing here.

The $11,000 price tag may be a little steep for some, but for those who already are in line to score a 911 GT2 RS, it's a drop in the bucket, especially when you get a car and a watch in return. Porsche Design even says that if you decide to buy the 911 GT2 RS Chronograph, and you have a slot for the actual sports car, it's going to deliver both at the same time. Fancy stuff.
