Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and the family of Anton Yelchin have finally settled the lawsuit that was filed by the latter over the unfortunate and untimely death of the Reuters actor. A report from Reuters reveals that the case was wrapped up in Los Angeles Superior Court last week, putting the rest a legal battle that had been ongoing for the last 20 months.

According to the Reuters report, Yelchin’s parents, Victor and Irina, settled with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles. Details of what both parties agreed to were not disclosed, but the good news is that it puts to bed all the animosity that spilled into the surface in the aftermath of the actor’s tragic death.

For those who don’t remember, Yelchin was killed when his 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee rolled down the slanted driveway of his home, even when the SUV was reportedly in the Park position. The moving Grand Cherokee crushed Yelchin against the fence and brick pillar outside his home, killing him in the process.

The actor’s parents, who themselves were star figure skaters in their heyday, sued FCA over their son’s death, arguing that the automaker didn’t provide details of the transmission issues the Grand Cherokee was suffering from, only doing so a week after the tragic accident that claimed the actor’s life. FCA eventually recalled all 2014 and 2015 models of the Grand Cherokee, as well as 2012 to 2014 MYs of the Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans, because of the defective transmission software.

The actor’s parents’ case against the automaker dragged on throughout 2017, until recently when both parties reportedly reached a settlement to put the case the rest. It took a while to get here, but it is nice to know that the two sides have come to terms on an amicable deal. “We continue to extend our deepest sympathies to the Yelchin family for their tragic loss,” a spokesman for the automaker said.“ We are pleased that we’ve reached an amicable resolution in this matter.”

Hopefully, the same can be said for the elder Yelchins, both of whom are still coming to grips with their son’s death. At least with this lawsuit getting resolved, all parties can now move forward with their lives.
