Ferrari has plans to launch no fewer than 15 new models by 2022, and one of those is said to be the brand’s first high-riding SUV, currently referred to as the Purosangue. It will be a front mid-engined vehicle built on a new chassis architecture with a transaxle gearbox that Ferrari is currently developing alongside a new mid-engined platform.

Reports say the information comes straight from Ferrari’s new CEO, Louis Camilleri, who spoke at a Ferrari shareholder meeting earlier this week. He is the one who announced the plan for the many new models, as well as a taller vehicle - the first one of its kind in the company’s history and one that the company previously claimed would never be built.

This suggests that two- or four-door models are possible. Regarding its body style, it will clearly be a rakish, coupe-like model roughly similar in side profile to the Lamborghini Urus.

Calling it an SUV, though, is something Camilleri doesn’t want you to do, and they’ll definitely find a new bespoke acronym to describe their new creation.

Who would buy it? Well, wealthy buyers from the Middle East will definitely love it, as will Russian and Chinese buyers, although it could become big in America as well.

The new Ferrari "SUV" should arrive in conceptual form by 2020 and hit the roads in production form by 2022.
