Ferrari->ke252 test driver Marc Gene’s got a pretty sweet gig. Not only has he driven for Ferrari in Formula One,->ke662 but he’s also one of a handful of people who Ferrari pays to drive its cars. Think about that for a minute. Marc Gene gets to drive the nastiest Ferraris in the world and he gets checks sent in the mail for doing it! Gene’s time with Ferrari has allowed him to drive the company’s growing list of track-oriented supercars. It’s a list that includes the 599XX, the FXX,->ke407 and lest we forget, Ferrari’s latest pride and joy, the 2015 FXX K.

Inside Evo recently caught up with Gene to talk shop about his experience driving these mighty Ferraris and the importance the company puts in building these envelop-pushing, track-specific supercars to satiate the needs and demands of its clientele. The conversation eventually went to the FXX K, which Gene describes as the most “advanced Ferrari ever built.” Coming from a man who’s driven his fair share of Ferraris, Gene’s comments about the FXX K is right on the money.

As a reminder, the Ferrari FXX K is the meaner and nastier cousin of the LaFerrari,->ke4626 or as some would formally call it, the track version of the powerful hybrid supercar.->ke177 But describing it merely in that tone is selling the FXX K short. There’s more to the track-spec supercar than just being the LaFerrari’s relative. For one thing, it arguably has the most sophisticated aerodynamic setup of any car in the world today. It also comes with the same hybrid powertrain that the LaFerrari has, featuring a 6.3-liter, V-12 engine and an electric motor that combine to produce 1,050 horsepower and 663 pound-feet of torque. With these numbers, the FXX K is capable of blasting from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds to go with a top speed of 217 mph.
