The Fiat 124 Spider still looks the same, but Fiat is aiming to give it more personality by stocking up on options and personalization offerings for the chic retro-styled roadster. The sports car also won’t receive a shot of more power. The good news on that end is future owners can opt to get a dual-mode exhaust system that will help make the 124 Spider louder and more formidable to the ears.

Whether you like the Fiat 124 Spider or not, it’s hard to argue that the roadster needs a shot in the arm. A refreshed design and increased power would have cured the roadster’s ails, but Fiat went the other way, to a certain extent.

There are ways to improve the 124 Spider’s appearance, but it’s not an organic change from Fiat itself. The package costs $495 and comes with a red front-tow-hook cover, red mirror caps, red trim to the center of the lower front fascia, Abarth-specific floor mats, and an aluminum-like foot pedal. If you aren’t inclined to spend $495 for the package, you can settle for new “Double Rally” and “Retro” racing stripes that are available to the 124 Spider Classica trim. A backup camera also comes standard on every trim level of the 2019 124 Spider.

None of these options will improve the performance and driving experience of the 124 Spider, but Fiat did add a dual-mode exhaust system for the top-of-the-line 124 Spider Abarth, provided that you’re comfortable paying the extra $995 for it. The dual-mode exhaust system roars to life when the 124 Spider accelerates, clearing its throat before making a raucous roar that you normally don’t get to hear from a car that, unfortunately, still has just 170 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque in its top-of-the-line form.

The mid-tier 124 Spider Lusso starts at $27,995, while the range-topping 124 Spider Abarth will set you back $30,000.
