Did you want to be the first person to pick up the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500? Well, you’re too late. The first production model of the muscle car has been sold at an auction for $1.1 million! The lucky (and wealthy) buyer is the Chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson - a man that basically won the auction in his own back yard!

The First 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 Sold For a Price 15-times Higher Than Its Value

This is an organization that Ford supports and this is what Joe Hinrichs, Ford President for Global Operations, said, “The chance to become the owner of the first 2020 Ford Shelby GT500 cars is an opportunity of a lifetime,” “More importantly, being involved in helping to raise much-needed funds and awareness for JDRF is a big win for everyone.”

Ford seems to be enjoying itself by teasing us without telling us what exactly how much power is derived from what lies under the hood. We are hoping the auction-winner, Craig Jackson, will give us the exact specs. By the way, he can choose from available colors and options for the coveted first production-spec of the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500. This is the least he should get to do after spending a million dollars on a car that essentially costs somewhere around $70,000.

All For A Good Cause

The ‘700-plus horsepower’ 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 with the VIN 001 was sold with “no reserve” which means that there is no minimum bid required - it could have sold for $20,000 if bidding had actually stopped. Edsel B. Ford II said, “For 35 years, Ford Motor Company has fueled the efforts of JDRF researchers to find a cure while helping millions of children enjoy better lives.”

It Comes Back Stronger and Tougher After a Five-Year Hiatus

This unit is expected to churn out 700-plus horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque. If rumors are to be believed, the 2020 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 will have a rating of 755 ponies that comfortably beat the Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat’s 707 horses and Chevy Camaro ZL1’s 650 horsepower.
