Five Reasons America Is The Best

If you live here in America, then it’s time to celebrate your independence with the traditional combination of beer, pounds of meat grilled in the open air, and highly dangerous explosives. After all, it’s tradition. To supplement this time-honored ritual, we’ve assembled a list of some of the things that make this country so damn great.

Included are the requisite clouds of tire smoke, news of red-white-and-blue conquest overseas, new and upcoming vehicles of freedom, excessive horsepower, and videos->ke278 of victory over foreign oppressors.

So grab your can of domestic, throw on another round of burgers, unfurl the star spangled, and get ready because we’re about to kick the tires and light the fires, big daddy. We promise it’ll be more patriotic than George Washington riding a giant bald eagle and firing an M16 over Mount Rushmore.

American Hot Rodders Set Burnout Record

Recently at the Summernats in Canberra, Australia, 103 muscle cars->ke507 went about setting a new Guinness Book world record->ke1948 for most simultaneous burnouts.

Now, we love the Aussies. They enjoy V-8s almost as much as we do. But clearly, such a record can’t stand down-under. No, this is something that simply has to be American-owned.

So, the annual Hot Rod Power Tour saw the U.S. back on top earlier last month, when 110 patriots burned rubber for America at the Memphis International Raceway, producing enough vaporized tire to reach from here to Melbourne.

Some might say the record wasn’t official over trivialities like “each burnout has to last at least 30 seconds” and “not all the cars were going at the same time,” but honestly, they’re probably just saying that ‘cause they’re jealous of our freedom.

Corvette Takes Class Victory At 24 HOLM

When it comes to prestigious European motoring events, the 24 Hours of Le Mans->ke1591 is the big one. The race has been run since forever, and is considered the battleground of choice for foreign sports car->ke506 makers. It’s old aristocracy and weird accents, and they probably don’t even sell hot dogs. Suffice it to say, Americans don’t always participate.

This year, that changed (the participation thing, not the hot dogs). Taking on the Ferraris->ke252 and Aston Martins->ke13 in the GTE-Pro class were two 2014 Chevrolet Corvette C7.Rs. The second day of qualifying saw the No. 63 car eat a wall, forcing it to withdraw and putting the pressure on the sister No. 64 car.

Outnumbered and outgunned, the ‘Vette->ke1280 still managed to outlast the competitors, taking the lead after the front-running 458->ke3479 pitted with gearbox issues. The win gave Corvette Racing a hat trick of victories in endurance racing, with wins in the 24 Hours of Daytona and 12 Hours of Sebring.

Ford Performance Insanity

The blue oval->ke31 has given us some pretty amazing performance vehicles over the years, and it looks like it has no intentions of slowing just yet. Just the opposite, in fact, as the automaker plans on offering 12 new performance models between now and 2020.

So far, we’ve seen what’s on tap, and the roster is looking quite good indeed. The 2016 Ford Focus RS, 2015 Ford Focus ST, 2014-2015 Ford Fiesta ST, 2016 Ford Shelby Mustang GT350R, and 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor are all new and ready to blow your mind with stars-and-stripes-style speed.

Of course, don’t forget the new 2017 Ford GT. It might bear some newfangled turbo V-6, but that’s ok – if you’re looking for that standard-issue, eight-cylinder burble, look no further than the next section of this article.

More Hellcats

Horsepower is good, right? So more horsepower is more gooder, right?

Glad we agree. It seems as though Dodge->ke28 and the American public agree as well, with the trademark 707-horsepower supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 that FCA cooked up in their mad scientist workshop finding its way into the wild at an ever-quickening pace. The top-shelf Charger->ke218 and Challenger->ke249 models are simply flying out the door, and production rates have been increased twice already to match demand. Dodge has even had to up the sticker price and stop taking orders to catch up.

Add to this the rumors that Jeep->ke40 could launch a Hellcat-powered Grand Cherokee->ke936 called the TrackHawk, and well, it looks like the eco crowd has met its match. And why not? Why not offer a car that goes 200 mph, runs the quarter mile in 10 seconds, and costs $60K? You’d have to be a damned Commie to disagree with all that.

America Vs. Britain

As you all know, this holiday is a celebration of the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776, which announced that the original 13 American colonies saw themselves as autonomous and sovereign states, free from British rule. It all had something to do with taxes, a bunch of tea going missing in Boston, and a war, or so I’m told.

Now, 239 years later, things are cool between us and the U.K., but a little friendly rivalry never hurt anyone, right?

With that in mind, here’s a bunch of videos showing American cars beating up British cars, not to mention this CTS-V eating a McLaren MP4-12C.
