Five Reasons Why You Will Love The New Chevy Blazer If You Have A Family

While dramatic in design and dominant in appearance, the new Chevrolet Blazer is, in fact, a rather sensible machine adapted for family use. No, it does not have seven seats inside, but that does not stop it from having all the imaginable functionality one could expect only from a new crossover.

Alan Batey, President of GM North America and Global Chevrolet brand Chief, said at the reveal that GM is bringing “one all-new SUV to the Chevrolet showroom. One that will have exceptional functionality and truly dramatic design.”

Chevrolet really went out of its own way to craft a fascinatingly practical car. This list of five reasons why you will love the new Chevy Blazer will show you exactly what Mr. Batey meant by “exceptional functionality.”

1. Chevy’s First Cargo Management System

Well, this was a surprise. Apart from the cargo management system for its trucks, Chevrolet actually did not have any cargo managing gear for cars or SUVs. Until now, that is. With the introduction of the 2019 Chevrolet Blazer, the Mexican-built CUV will come with Chevrolet’s first Cargo Management System. It is a feature installed in the cargo area (apparently standard for the top-notch RS and the Premier trim levels) and includes rails, aluminum fence, and probably a net.

By dividing the cargo bay, one can secure any item from moving around when the car is accelerating, decelerating or cornering. It is a neat trick, but one that has been used by the competition for decades now. Interestingly enough, GM’s own in-house brand, Cadillac, uses a more advanced version of the management system with the U shaped rails for its SUVs. It may be that the Blazer cargo bay lacks a few inches to utilize that system.

Nevertheless, the Cargo Management System is certainly another obvious functionality feature giving the Blazer its family-friendly second nature and accommodation only few can match.

2. The new Chevy Blazer Tows up to 4,500 pounds and it has a Hitch View System

When properly equipped, the 2019 Blazer will tow a lot. 4,500 pounds to be exact. This is enough for a nice boat or a decently sized camper. Obviously, it is slightly below the larger Traverse, or the comparable Toyota Highlander, but not by much. These two, in their most astute versions, will tow up to 5,000 pounds. Another competitor, the Nissan Murano is a bit vanilla when it comes to maximum trailering capacity, offering up only 1,500 pounds.

However, in order to get your new Blazer to tow this much, you’ll have to opt for the 3.6-liter V-6. With 310 horsepower and 269 pound-feet of torque, the optional Hitch View System, and the Hitch Guidance System, the Blazer will be quite a formidable, mid-weight, towing rig.

Now, the Hitch View and the Hitch Guidance don’t have to be standard gear, but if you really want to be your own man, you’ll have them. The Hitch View will help a lot when positioning the car right in front of the trailer for an easier alignment. It will do so by showing a line on the center of the screen while reversing. Add to this the Hitch Guidance System as well, and one will be able to link a trailer without having someone else’s help.

This system was initially developed for pickup trucks, which are used quite often for towing. However, scaling down the tech towards the CUV and the SUV lineup is obviously possible and more than necessary.

3. Interior Comfort and Practicality

Regardless of its disgraceful transition from a full-fledged off-roader into a family hauling crossover, the Blazer is still a rather special car. It is a sporty CUV with the clearly evident sharpness of Chevrolet performance cars. Taking into account its colorful presence, I am not even surprised that Chevy revealed it without the option for seven seats. However, life will be really good for the five inside. Folding down the rear seats will free up to 64.2 cubic-feet of space (1,818 liters.) That's enough for anyone concerned, really. I think that the more important feature is the addition of the sliding rear seats. Those at the back can adjust the seats forward or backward, and this is a standard option for the Blazer. Finally, installing a hands-free power liftgate, electronic locking glove box, and a few neat storage places in the cabin makes the Blazer a household name.

4. Standard and Optional Equipment

Three basic versions of the Blazer are available - Base, RS, and Premier. Although the RS is a sporty knock-off and the Premier trim, even the entry-level 2019 Chevrolet Blazer includes a number of cool equipment features; from the 8-inch diagonal touch screen with Chevrolet Infotainment 3 to the comfort-open windows.

Obviously, nothing revolutionary, but convenient nonetheless.

Moving from the base version, the 2019 Chevy Blazer can be equipped with things like the automated heated steering wheel and heated/ventilated front seats. The rear seats can be equipped with the heated option as well. It's available as an option for the RS but comes standard for the Premier.

The infotainment system and the entertainment options can be further improved with the installation of wireless charging and six USB ports, as well as 4G LTE Wi-Fi compatibility. There is also Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for the taking.

From experience, there is another really important feature. Padded knee support! It makes for a nice and useful addition.

5. Personalization

Chevy was rather coy on details about the new 2019 Blazer. Yet, Chevy did highlight a unique opportunity for personalization. The optional panoramic, dual-pane power sunroof is a rather cool option, but customers have a number of other opportunities as well. Aluminum wheel sizes range from 18- to 21-inches (on the RS and the Premier.) LED rear lights, dual exhaust, and a rear spoiler solidify the sporty look of the new Blazer too.

The options inside are more plentiful, with a number of interior color and trim choices available. The sporty aura prevails here thanks to the round air vents looking much the same as in the Camaro, cool handles on the doors, and nicely integrated infotainment display.
