There's no denying that the Ford Explorer is a popular SUV. America's best-selling crossover with more than seven million units sold 1990s, the Explorer is an SUV that Chevy can't keep up with. The sixth-gen model just debuted at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show and stole the show by drawing a big crowd of journalists at the Ford booth. Actually, the Explorer was the only reason why people gathered in the Chevrolet booth, from where they watched the unveiling event.

The attention it grabbed at the Cobo Center is that much more impressive given that the Explorer made its debut last week.

In case you've been living under a rock, the sixth-gen Explorer is a massive departure from its predecessor. It has a rear-driven platform now, an updated 2.3-liter EcoBoost mill and a new 3.0-liter V-6. Both deliver more oomph than rival offerings, especially when compared to the Chevy Traverse, and enable the Explorer to tow up to 5,600 pounds, a 12-percent increase.

But the Detroit even brought new stuff as well. More importantly, Ford released a hybrid version of the Explorer. It's very similar to the Aviator under the skin, but it pairs a naturally aspirated, 3.3-liter V-6 to an electric motor.

Stay tuned for more info on these versions and check out our full review of the latest Explorer.
