Next time you’re burning rubber in your Mustang GT350, just remember each unsuspecting Ford Explorer could be an undercover police cruiser. That’s thanks to Ford’->ke31s new “No Profile” light bar package the automaker is now offering as a factory option for the Police Interceptor Utility.

The new light bar mounts inside the vehicle, just above the rearview mirror on the front windshield. It’s incorporated into the headliner for a seamless look. Why it matters

Many though Ford was giving up its monopoly on the police industry when it killed the Crown Victory in 2011. However, the automaker has replaced the old-school cruiser with two vehicles based on the civilian Taurus and Explorer. Things like this interior visor light bar help point out how much Ford caterers to the police industry. In fact, the light bar comes on the heels of a ballistics panels options Ford offers for both the sedan and SUV cruiser. These are just the latest in a long line of factory accessories Ford is now offering.

What’s all this mean? Well, Ford is now competing with the aftermarket up-fit companies that are known for adding lights, sirens, and graphics to police cars. It’s likely Ford can under cut the pricing of these third-party up-fitters as well. Beyond that, the equipment is installed seamlessly at the factory and is covered under the vehicle’s warranty.
