Evolution Performance is contemplating breaking into the 7’s with a Ford Mustang. The company has already successfully ran an 8 second quarter mile in their 2007 Shelby GT500. With the help of two turbochargers and quadruple digit power numbers they should be successful.

More after the jump.

The Pennsylvania based shop is thinking of building a car derived from a production Ford Mustang to gobble up the quarter mile in just 7 seconds. The donor car for the tuner’s speed ambition is the S197 Ford Mustang Super Shelby GT500 and they will attempt to build it in time for the NMRA drag race early this March at Bradenton, Florida.

The tuning firm has already successfully built an 8-second quarter miler in the form of the 2007 Shelby GT500 and they are trying to push the boundaries of the Mustang platform even further. The secret to succeeding in a 7-second quarter mile is a unique twin-turbocharger set up for the V8 engine of the GT500.

The new car will come with an all aluminum engine complete with CNC machined heads, custom camshafts for turbo application, a couple of precision double ball bearing turbochargers and a slew of other one-off components. Although there has not been any dyno testing done yet, the estimates for total power is in the neighborhood of 1,000.
