The GT supercar seems to be a hit among enthusiasts. To satisfy the ‘overwhelming’ customer demand, Ford has announced that the production of the GT supercar will be extended by approximately two years. For people who would like to get it this time around, the Blue Oval will start taking applications in selected markets for about a month, starting from November 8.

The 2019 Ford GT Will Still have Exclusivity

Ford’s Performance Director, Hermann Salenbauch, said, “The response to our Ford GT has been unprecedented, with initial demand outstripping supply by more than six-to-one. By extending the Ford GT production run for a limited period, we’re able to maintain the exclusivity of the ultra-desirable supercar while offering the ownership experience to a greater number of customers.”

Ford Will Build 350 More Examples of the Ford GT

People can express their desire to purchase the car on Ford GT’s official website. Applicants selected will be able to secure a build slot between 2020 and 2022, and can work with the special Concierge Service for a “personalized purchase experience”. To make sure the serious prospects don’t miss out, Ford has informed the previous applicants to confirm or modify their original application in order to be considered for this final opportunity.

This was before the GT added another feather to its hat – recapturing the LeMans glory. Earlier reports said that the company that builds the Ford GT, Multimatic, was behind schedule for 2017, as it managed to produce just 138 out of 250 examples. This meant that it could lead to Ford extending the production of the GT by six months in order to finish the run. The production of the Ford GT was originally going to end in 2020.

The Reason for the Demand

Talking about the supercar, it is powered by a 3.5-liter, EcoBoost V-6 that develops 647 horses and 550 pound-feet of torque. The GT has a top speed of 216 mph. The GT comes with a special hydraulic suspension that features a track mode, which lowers the car by around 50mm, and boosts the powertrain and chassis for maximum performance.
