Launched in 2017 as the company's flagship sedan, the Genesis G90 is in for a facelift for the 2020 model year. Hyundai's luxury arm has yet to release an official debut date, but published the first teaser photo, and it seems facelift will be quite extensive.

Big Design Changes

Although the car in the teaser is hidden underneath a black cloth cover, we can spot some obvious changes. First up, the sedan sports brand-new headlamps. And they're radically different from the old lights with a sweptback design. For the facelift, Genesis went with a rectangular shape split horizontally by a daytime running light strip that extends well into the front fenders. Powerful LED lights flank the strip above and below.

The front grille is different too and it looks as if Genesis turned the old element upside down, as it's now wider at the bottom. The company also ditched the horizontal slats from the outgoing model, opting for a honeycomb mesh like that on the G70 midsize sedan. Needless to say, Genesis is going with a sportier look this time around.

Nothing much can be seen outside the sightly revised engine hood and the bigger vents in the bumper, but the facelift should add an equally exciting rear end, while the profile will probably remain similar to the old model.

More Luxury, New Tech

Inside the cabin, the G90 should benefit from the same new features we saw in the redesigned Kia K900, starting with the massive 12.3-inch infotainment display. The digital instrument cluster will probably measure only seven inches, but Genesis should offer a 12.3-inch option, which will put the G90 on par with the German sedans.

Look for high quality leather upholstery in a few color options, open-pore wood, heated and ventilated seats, adjustable headrests, and a leather steering wheel. It should also have a premium sound system and plenty of driving assist features, including Surround View Monitor, Blind Spot View Monitor, Lane Keep Assist System, Forward Collision Avoidance Assist, Driver Attention Warning, Rear Cross Traffic Avoidance Alert, Lane Follow Assist, and Advanced Smart Cruise Control.

Hopefully Genesis will be able to increase trunk space to solve the car's main issue in most reviews.

Uprated Engines?

There's no word on engine upgrades, but they could carry over with minor revisions and similar output. This isn't a big issue though, as the base 3.3-liter V-6 cranks out a solit 365 horsepower and 376 pound-feet of torque. Should you need more oomph, the optional 5.0-liter V-8 delivers an even more appealing 420 horses and 383 pound-feet. While power isn't an issue with these engines, they need better fuel economy.

Expect the official unveiling to take place some time in the next four months.
