Gorgeous Cadillac Coupe Concept revealed in patent drawings

It could preview the upcoming two-door CT5

Cadillac-made coupes are sexy as hell. Unfortunately, they're quite rare nowadays. With the CTS Coupe already discontinued and the ATS set to go into the history books beyond 2018, Cadillac will have no two-door models on offer in a few months. Fortunately, this may change soon with the arrival of the CT5, which replaces the CTS. A series of leaked patent drawings confirm that Caddy may offer a coupe version too, and it's downright gorgeous.

Discovered by the folks over at Cadillac Society, the patent images were filed back in February with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Although the drawings aren't very detailed, it's quite obvious that the vehicle is heavily based on the Escala concept. Unveiled in 2016, the Escala previews the CT5, which is set to replace the third-generation CTS. This means that the unnamed concept probably previews the CT5 Coupe, which is set to follow the sedan version according to rumors.

We don't know much about the production model, but the vehicle in the drawings is clearly a concept. Not only does it have the same details as the Escala, including the extremely thin headlamps and the small vent atop the grille, but it also has thin side mirrors with cameras and fairly big wheels - two features you don't usually see on production vehicles.

But, while it is indeed based on the Escala, the coupe sports quite a few features of its own. Up front, we can see different air outlets on the sides, as well as a revised center bumper and splitter. Of course, the profile is different too, sporting an aggressively sloped roofline, a wide C-pillar, and a big rear spoiler. The rear section includes similar taillights, but the bumper includes a race-inspired diffuser. What's more, the exhaust pipes are grouped in the center rather than on the sides.

The concept is indeed spectacular and looks like a slightly longer and more elegant Chevy Camaro. But it remains to be seen if it will spawn a production car or have the sad fate of the Ciel and Elmiraj, both of which ended up going nowhere.
