When Nissan and Italdesign joined forces to create the GT-R50 prototype earlier this year, the final product elevated Godzilla from functional to fantastic, bestowing undeniable beauty onto a platform usually regarded for its prowess, rather than its aesthetic. Now, Nissan has revealed a final limited-run production version, and its still got the goods to drop jaws.

Is This The Ultimate GT-R?

This past summer, we caught up with the Nissan GT-R50 prototype by Italdesign at the 2018 rendition of The Quail, A Motorsport Gathering during Monterey Car Week, and suffice to say, we were utterly smitten by its stunning good looks.

The project started as a collaboration between the Japanese automaker and the iconic Italian design house, and framed as a celebration of the 50th anniversary for the GT-R in 2019, and the 50th anniversary of Italdesign in 2018.

Italdesign managed to transform this beast into a truly stunning piece of rolling art - it looks fast and powerful, but with far more delicacy than the standard GT-R. The curves are gentle, but heavy creases separate the individual design elements without divorcing them from the overall structure.

Even the interior is upgraded, with large swaths of carbon fiber and Alcantara creating even more warm and fuzzy feelings.

Under the new skin, the GT-R50 utilizes the same platform and drivetrain as the top-spec GT-R Nismo, with a twin-turbo 3.8-liter VR38DETT V-6 powerplant providing motivation to a high-performance, race-derived AWD system. However, while the standard GT-R Nismo makes 600 horsepower, the GT-R50 was tuned to produce a whopping 710 horsepower, an impressive 110-horsepower gain over the standard model. Torque also increases to 575 pound-feet, a 94-pound-feet increase over the Nismo’s 481 pound-feet.

That means that not only is the GT-R50 a lovely piece of design work, it’s also brutally fast. As such, it comes with the beefier suspension, braking, and drivetrain components needed to make the most of the extra muscle.

Customers will be able to choose their preferred color combination upon purchase, as well as a full list of interior colors and optional packages as well.

The Nissan GT-R50 by Italdesign will carry a limited run of 50 units, each of which will cost 990,000 euros before taxes and options. At current exchange rates (12/07/2018), that calculates out to a whopping $1,129,773. Better start flipping those couch cushions.

Interested customers are encouraged to visit GT-R50.nissan and to contact Italdesign to get theirs. Deliveries kick off next year.
