The Dark Knight Rises has been heating up cinemas for the past few days, so it seems only fitting that with the last part of the trilogy in cinemas today, we take a look at one of the most enduring stars of the famed DC super hero movie franchise. No, we're not talking about Alicia Silverstone's Batgirl character from Batman and Robin. What we're referring to is the Batmobile, the Dark Knight's very own ride-of-choice.

In this section though, we're going to pay tribute - we use that word loosely - to the five worst Batmobile replicas we've ever seen. Some are more eye-cringing than the others, but rest assured, none of them would pass the standards of Bruce Wayne.

Heck, we don't even think the Joker would be caught dead riding in one of these so-called Batmobiles.

So here it is, folks. Prepare to cringe, laugh, or whatever emotion these pictures will do to you.

The Toyota Yaris Batmobile

We once inducted this Yaris-Mobile into our Worst Batmobiles Hall of Fame and after a few years, we're just about tempted to name an entire wing after it. The wings on the back are about as flimsy as it gets. The Batman decals on the car are a nice touch, albeit a little to small to be distinguishable. Finally, the car just doesn't exude the kind of bad-assery that is usually reserved for a Batmobile. Props on the gold wheels though; at least that was a nice touch.

The Pontiac Grand-Am Batmobile

Uhmm...what else is really there to say about this Batmobile. The man who ended up building this monstrosity only paid $100 for the car. From there, he decided to give it a Batmobile make-over, although how successful he came to doing it remains a matter of conjecture. Somehow though, he managed to turn a $100 car into $600 after selling it on Craigslist. Sometimes, the truth really is stranger than fiction.

The Volkswagen Beetle Batmobile

Is it a Batmobile or is it a Whalemobile? Keeping with the theme of the Yaris Batmobile, this work of the art-less appears to have been inspired by the Adam West Batmobile as evidenced by the red stripes running along the sides of the Beetle->ke318. Our issue with this car is the single wing that's been placed right in the middle of the Beetle. Last we checked, bats had two wings, right? Don't even get us started on whatever it is that's hanging on the hood of the car...

The Ford Escort GT Batmobile

We have to give, at the very least, a modicum amount of respect to this Batmobile because, if for nothing else, it looks clean. It's another Adam West Batmobile-inspired creation, but it really doesn't do anything to stir our imaginations. Even the wheels, with the Batman wheel caps, aren't that interesting. Finally, those three tailpipes that protrude at the back and pointing to the sky? They look good on the real Batmobile; not so much on this one.

The Smart ForTwo Batmobile

Our issue with this one isn't so much about the build - it's actually pretty decent - but the sheer practicality of it. Can Eco-Batman, with all his gadgets and gizmos, even fit inside this Smart ForTwo->ke1744? Heck, if he decided to patrol the streets of Gotham with this car, the Joker would probably keel over and surrender just by laughing so damn hard.
