Now, how fast do you think lawnmowers can move? If your guess is in the ballpark of 20-25 mph, then you have certainly not heard of the ‘Lawnmower Racing’ concept. People usually enter to have fun, but there are some cases where automotive giants get involved as well. The first name that comes to mind is Honda, who set the record for the fastest lawnmower with its beast; only to be beaten later on. However, the Japanese company is back with Mean Mower version 2.0 and is confident of setting the record again. How fast, you ask?

It Could Give Stiff Competition To Some Powerful Sports Cars As Well!

Back in 2014, Honda UK and its racing partner, Team Dynamics, went on to claim the Guinness World Record for the fastest lawnmower, by clocking 130 mph! This record was broken by a Norwegian team in 2015 when they touched 134 mph. To conquer their lost throne, Honda is back with the HF 2622 lawn tractor – dubbed as the Mean Mower V2. Honda is confident of clocking 150 mph with this enhanced beast.

The company has retained the look by carrying over the front cowl, grass box, and the body panels. Despite being made for a different purpose altogether, it still has the ability to cut grass. Slight revisions to the cutter deck are made to house the chain running to the rear tires, and two batteries are used to power the electric motors, which spin carbon fiber blades to mow the grass. The mean mower surely knows its priorities well.

This Is A Powerful, POWERFUL Machine

The engine is borrowed from Honda’s CBR 1000 RR Fireblade SP bike. It is a 1.0-liter, four-cylinder that produces 190 horses at 13,000 rpm! It is mated to a six-speed gearbox. Thanks to the light body and dry engine weight of 152 pounds, the Mean Mower could achieve a power-to-weight ratio of 1,000 hp/ton. The brakes are four-piston calipers in the front and six in the rear – vented to increase airflow and reduce weight. The lawnmower rolls on special-order Hoosier racing tires and Goldspeed 10-inch ATV wheels anodized in gold. The Mean Mower V2 will driven by 23-year-old Jess Hawkins, an experienced racer who is currently working as a stunt driver in the Fast & Furious live show.

While Honda is absolutely confident of reclaiming the record, we’re sure there are others waiting to mow it down! Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
