The new-generation Hyundai Genesis was unveiled earlier this month at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, and it came with a few surprises, including an updated look, a new platform and the availability of an advanced HTRAC AWD system. What's strange is that this new system will only be offered with the 3.8-liter V-6 version, not in the more powerful V-8 version.

At a first glance, this may seem like a strange move, but in a recent interview with Autoguide, Hyundai->ke201's spokesman Miles Johnson revealed that this move was made because Hyundai is considering a performance-focused Genesis that will feature the Tau 5.0-liter V-8 and the HTRAC all-wheel-drive system. This performance model is still being discussed and is not yet given the green light, but if it gets the "go," it should arrive a few months after the base version.

Hyundai's spokesman did not reveal if this new model will be offered with more power than the standard V-8, but he did confirm there will be improvements to the chassis and lateral grip.

2015 Hyundai Genesis

The new generation Hyundai Genesis made its world debut at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show and comes with a series of significant improvements: a new, more rigid platform with a new exterior design and advanced drivetrain options.

The base version is powered by a 3.8-liter V-6 that produces 311 at 6,000 rpm horsepower and 293 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm, while top version gets a Tau 5.0-liter V-8 that delivers 420 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 383 pound-feet of torque at 5,000 rpm. Both engines come mated to Hyundai’s in-house designed eight-speed automatic transmission, while the V-6 version can also be combined with an advanced HTRAC AWD system.
