Rapper and actor Ice-T was arrested earlier this week for on allegations that he evaded paying a toll on the New Jersey side of the George Washington Bridge. The veteran actor was reportedly in the E-ZPass lane with his brand-new McLaren 720S, which didn’t have license plates, either. The actor told cops that he simply forgot to bring his E-ZPass with him, adding that he actually has seven of them. Ultimately, he was allowed to leave the scene after receiving a ticket for the unregistered supercar.

The irony in this story is hard to miss. Veteran rapper and actor Ice-T getting stopped by the Port Authority police for not paying the toll is something his character on Law & Order: SVU — he plays an NYPD detective — wouldn’t be caught doing. But alas, sometimes reality is stranger than fiction, and that’s certainly the case here.

According to TMZ, Ice T’s McLaren 720S was freshly shipped from California, so there’s reason to believe that the rapper was just a little too excited to give his new toy some run that he forgot to bring one of his seven E-ZPass transmitters with him. It’s interesting in itself that the actor has seven E-ZPass transmitters, though that’s a story for another day.

It’s unclear if the supercar had a temporary tag, but the absence of real ones could be the reason why the cops flagged him for eluding the toll. Ice T looks to have gotten off lightly, even though the actor didn’t see it that way. Shortly after the incident, he posted on his Twitter account, saying that “cops went a little extra. Coulda just wrote a ticket.”

He also posted a photo of Channel 7 News reporting the story in the news, mocking the report as “Channel 7 News type *bleep*”

In any event, all’s well that ends well, right? Ice-T plays a cop on TV, but that didn’t stop him from getting in trouble with the real authorities. Good thing the McLaren 720S was spared from all the drama.
