Toyota->ke88 boss Akio Toyoda has confirmed that he would like to bring a new generation Supra sometime in 2013 or 2014. Unfortunately, it may take a little more than his wanting to actually bring forth a new Supra. Other head honchos in the company do not like the idea and, during a press conference in Japan, Toyoda told journalists that he "wants to see the next Supra tested in the near future, even if one president says that we want to have a Supra again, the whole company is not going to be responding to that request." Looks like there is a small tug-o-war within Toyota and, this time, it's not over whether or not to shed light on a safety issue.

The next generation Supra was previewed by the FT-HS concept at the 2007 Detroit motor show. It is rumored to be powered by a V6 hybrid powertrain. Previous rumors said it would also come with a 5.0 liter V8 engine producing 450 hp and 383 lbs-ft of torque.

The next Supra, if produced, will be offered in both coupe and convertible versions. The future model would be developed in parallel to the delayed FT-86 sports car. Toyota also plans to bring a new MR2 small sports car. With all of these cars in the mix, we can guess that Toyota is going to be pretty busy for the next few years.
