Ferrari first introduced the 599 for the 2007 model year as a replacement for the 575M Maranello. Sporting elegant curves and high-powered, front mid-engine motivation, this grand tourer checks all the right boxes for a modern Berlinetta from the Prancing Horse. Now, there’s an utterly bespoke version heading to the auction block in Monaco this May.

The Full Story

Before we dive into the specifics of this hot-to-trot Italian stallion, we’ll start with a few words on Ferrari’s bespoke customer customization program, also known as Tailor Made. To make this 599 what it is today, Tailor Made added a ton of custom touches, including upgrades for the exterior and paint, interior upholstery and trim, and other various bits and pieces.

As Ferrari’s high-performance flagship model, the 599 seems like an ideal candidate to receive extra flair as a complement to the superlative performance on deck. Outside, the 599 is characterized by gorgeous cab-back proportions, including a long hoodline and advanced aerodynamic elements. To this lovely canvas, the bespoke 599 adds a dark Nero Stellato paint job, with a multi-layer metallic flake finish “designed to sparkle like the night sky.”

Occupying the corners are 20-inch matte black “Challenge” wheels, while matte black grille inserts can be found in the front fascia intakes and in the various vents around the front and rear fenders.

The badging also gets a matte black finish, as does the quartet of exhaust tips. Privacy glass is used for the rear windows.

Offsetting the black coloring is a gold finish for the large brake calipers, plus yellow for the Ferrari badging on the fenders and red for the taillight housings.

Moving into the interior, this custom 599 gets some very nice Poltrona Frau leather upholstery as a replacement for the standard Alcantara material. The hide is finished in a bright orange color that complements the brake calipers, while a diamond “losangatura”quilting pattern adds extra zest.

Further Aniline leather can be found elsewhere in the interior, including above the passengers on the roof lining. Even the trunk is covered in the stuff, which also comes complete with the Cavallino emblem.

Further details include a unique solid silver placard reading “nec mundus duobus solibus potest regi,” which is Latin for “the world cannot be ruled by two suns.” How very Tony Montana.

Instrumentation and infotainment are also upgraded thanks to new GPS navigation, front and rear parking sensors, a bright-white centrally mounted tachometer, and a new premium Bose stereo system.

Interestingly, every exposed bit of carbon fiber gets a glossy finish, as opposed to the matte finish on the standard vehicle. This can be seen inside on the seat backs, door cards, door frames, dash, and center console, while outside, the engine bay, side view mirrors, fuel filler cap, rear diffuser, and headlight surrounds are also glossy black carbon fiber.

If that seems like an extensive upgrade, you’re right. RM Sotheby’s reports that the cost of going glossy on the carbon cost the original owner a whopping 50,000 Swiss Francs, or $51,284 at current exchange rates (04/20/2018).

While the aesthetics are utterly unique to this particular 599 GTO, the powertrain, drivetrain, and chassis remain untouched from the factory.

Making it all go is a thumping 6.0-liter Tipo F140 V-12 powerplant, which lays down as much as 670 horsepower at 8,250 rpm and 460 pound-feet of torque at 6,500 rpm. Routing it all is an F1-style transmission. Properly applied to the rear axle, it’s enough to propel the GTO from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.1 seconds, while top speed is rated at 334 km/h (207 mph).

Indeed, this is one very sweet 599. Final details include full Ferrari Classiche certification, while all service was performed by Ferrari. Not that it needed much upkeep considering its got just 3,750 km (2,330 miles) on the odometer, and the fact it lived in a climate-controlled garage when it wasn’t out on the road. Furthermore, the owner extended the warranty up to November of 2018.

Potential buyers will be interested to know that this vehicle is also the most expensive “Tailor Made” Ferrari ever commissioned, with a final price of more than CHF 600,000, or $615,413 at current exchange rates.

“As such, it is arguably the most remarkable 599 GTO to come to market in recent memory, adding a unique touch of luxury to the brutish personality and performance of the 599 GTO, making for perhaps the perfect Ferrari grand tourer,” reports RM Sotheby’s.

If you wanna try your hand in acquiring this 599 for your own collection, look for it to hit the block as Lot 165 at RM Sotheby’s Monaco, which is set to take place alongside the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday, May 12th.

Estimated value is between 600,000 and 650,000 euros ($736,905 to $798,314 at current exchange rates).
