Things are looking pretty good for Infiniti’s future despite having its worldwide president, Johan de Nysschen, jump ship to Cadillac->ke18. Plans are already in place for a whole crop of new vehicles to debut by 2018, including a 700-horsepower, four-door coupe slotted over the current Q70 flagship.

Though Infiniti->ke36 hasn’t officially named the sedan yet, the naming scheme dictates a Q80 or Q90 nomenclature. The car may share Mercedes’->ke187 modular, rear-wheel-drive platform, thanks to the $1.36 billion deal struck between the companies. Its power will come from an in-house, turbocharged V-6. Estimates of its power output of 600 to 700 horsepower comes from comments Nysschen made while still at Infiniti. The expected arrival date for the Q80/Q90 lands somewhere in 2017 or 2018.

This 700-horsepower Porsche Panamera competitor would be in addition to the smaller Q50 Eau Rouge. Debuted at the 2014 Detroit Auto Show, the Q50 Eau Rouge makes uses of many Nissan GT-R parts, including its hand-built, 3.8-liter, turbocharged V-6. Carbon fiber and other lightweight parts abound, making it a serious competitor to the Mercedes E63 AMG and BMW M5.

Even with all that GT-R-level performance, Infiniti only expects to sell roughly 500 Eau Rouge sedans a year. That’s almost hard to believe, even with the Eau Rouge’s sticker price exceeding $100,000.

Of course, Infiniti’s list of new or refreshed vehicles for the future includes many more. An overview of the automakers plans is below the jump.

Why It Matters

Infiniti’s pursuit of performance seems to be on the rise as the Q50 Eau Rouge comes to market and word of the Q70 surfaces. This puts Nissan’s->ke62 luxury brand in good standing to compete with the likes of BMW->ke178, Mercedes->ke187, and Audi->ke14. Only time will tell if the Japanese automaker is able to bring down the German stalwarts, but if the GT-R shows any indication, we’re in for a good fight.

Infiniti's future lineup

Sedans, Coupes & Convertibles

Q30 Compact Sedan: The Q30 will utilize the Mercedes-Benz MFA platform that the current GLA rides on. The small hatch will be primarily sold in Europe with the American market taking second place. A 2.0-liter, I-4 Mercedes engine is expected under the Q30’s hood and its competition will be the Audi A3->ke1086 and Q3->ke2666 siblings. The Q30 is due in Europe for 2016.

LE: Like General Motors has done with its Chevy Volt and Cadillac ELR, so Infiniti will do with the Nissan Leaf. The LE will be an all-electric vehicle that gets its own design inside and out with an obvious eye on luxury. Infiniti is working to extend the vehicle’s range past the current 90-mile mark. Expect the LE for the 2017 or 2018 model year.

Q40: The most current change here is the switch from the G37 nomenclature to the new Q40 nameplate for 2014.

Q50: The Q50 marched into 2014 largely unchanged and will remain Infiniti’s volume leader. The Q50 can be had in either the standard version or a hybrid model.

Q60 Coupe and Convertible: Like the Q40, the Q60 coupe and convertibles soldier on unchanged into 2014 except for its name. Gone now is the G37 nomenclature. A replacement is in the pipeline for the two-door cars, but details are still sketchy.

Q70: The old M45 is now the Q70 for 2014, but the flagship sedan will only last one year before getting a complete makeover for 2015. A new front end, grille, and LED headlights -- along with new rear lighting elements are part of the refresh.

SUVs and Crossovers

QX30 Compact Crossover: Just like the Q30 compact hatch, the QX30 crossover will mainly be sold in Europe, though it will make its way into the States. It power will come from that 2.0-liter, Mercedes engine. The QX30 is expected to debut a year after its Q30 hatchback brother, so expect it around 2017.

QX50: Rumors and reports suggest the QX50 will continue selling despite slow global sales, that is except for China where the crossover is a massive hit. The QX50 will get a stretched version shortly and its production may not stop even after the newer QX50 comes to market.

QX60: A major refresh is scheduled for late 2015, but in the mean time, the QX60’s CVT gets a software upgrade for the remaining 2015 model year.

QX70: The swoopy-designed QX70 sadly loses its all-wheel-drive option for 2015 though a complete redesign model is expected for the 2016 model year, hopefully with an AWD option.

QX80: The massive QX80 will get a refreshed nose for 2015 despite its current look being less than two years old. Like the other Infiniti models getting refreshed, it will get LED headlights and fog lights, along with an updated corporate grille.
